Privacy policy

Last updated: September 17, 2026

QuickTranslate is a Windows desktop application that translates text with a keyboard shortcut. This policy explains what data is processed, what for, and who it is shared with. In short: the text you translate is not stored, the application sends no telemetry and the website uses no cookies.

Data controller

Ander Arteaga (WiToArTe), Spain. For anything related to your data, write to the email address at the bottom of this page.

The text you translate

Write mode (the shortcut that replaces the text): the text travels encrypted to our server, which sends it to Google’s translation model (Gemini) and returns the result to your computer. Neither the original text nor the translation is stored in our database or in any log.

Read mode (the tooltip): the application queries a public Google Translate endpoint directly, without going through our server.

For each write-mode translation we only keep consumption data: model used, number of tokens and cost, in order to keep track of API spending. No content.

Account and usage data

Account: your email address. There are no passwords: we send a single-use code, which is stored encrypted, expires after 10 minutes and is deleted once used. When you sign in, a session token is created that expires after 90 days.

Device identifier: a random number generated by your own computer the first time, so we can give you the free quota without asking you to create an account. It contains no information about you.

Usage counters: number of translations per day per account or per device. On the free plan we also keep the daily count per IP address, solely as an anti-abuse measure.

Technical data from the application: installed version and interface language, which arrive with the requests the app already makes. The application sends no analytics events.

Payments

Subscriptions are handled by Stripe, which acts as the seller and takes care of VAT. Your card details are processed by Stripe: we neither see nor store them. On our side we only keep your email address, the plan, the subscription status, the renewal date and the Stripe customer and subscription identifiers.

The website

The analytics on this website use no cookies and ask for no consent. To count unique visitors, an irreversible value is generated from the date, the IP address and the browser: neither the IP address nor the browser is stored, and the value changes every day, so it cannot be used to track you over time. The page, the language and the referring site are recorded. This data is deleted after 400 days.

Purposes and legal basis

Providing the service and managing your account and your subscription: performance of the contract.

Preventing abuse of the free plan and measuring API cost: legitimate interest.

Measuring in aggregate how people reach the website: legitimate interest, with data that does not identify you.

Who the data is shared with

Google (translation), Stripe (payments and billing), Resend (sending the access codes) and Hostinger (the server the service runs on). Each of them processes only what is needed for its function.

Some of these providers are based in the United States, so there may be international data transfers, covered by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

We do not sell data and we do not pass it on to third parties for advertising purposes.

How long the data is kept

Access codes: 10 minutes. Sessions: 90 days, or until you sign out. Daily usage counters: those of the current day and the ones needed for the consumption history. Website analytics: 400 days. Account and subscription data: as long as you have an account, plus the period required by tax law for invoicing.

Your rights

You can request access to your data, its correction, its deletion or its portability, and object to certain processing. Just write to the email address at the bottom; we will reply within the legal deadline of one month.

If you believe we have not handled your request properly, you can lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, AEPD) or with the data protection authority of your country of residence in the European Union.

Minors and security

The service is not intended for children under 14.

All communications go over HTTPS, access codes are stored encrypted and session tokens contain no information about you.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date in the heading is updated. Significant changes are also announced in the application.
